Snickers Chocolate Mousse

Snickers Chocolate Mousse

No April Fools here! hungry gals is officially back from hiatus! Whoop – whoop! I know – I am shocked as well and I write some of this stuff! What was supposed to be a month of unplanned blog-free life suddenly turned into three (3!!!) month no-blogging zone. First I did not think about the hiatus much, but then suddenly it started feeling like something was missing and I started actually missing sharing beautiful recipes and decided that the cycle of blog-free life must be broken – it’s time to get back to blogging. Indeed long overdue time to get back into the kitchen and see what develops.

Snickers Chocolate Mousse

Well, I might just had a kinda catalyst in the Bake Off Creme de la Creme on BBC1 which I watched the other night. I know, I get super inspired whilst watching cooking and baking shows. How many times when watching Australia’s MasterChef or Australia’s My Kitchen Rules (Australians make the best cooking shows on the planet! Seriously!) have I declared that I am going to bake that (watch this space!) or I will try to make that for dinner next week. Those shows are such fab sources of inspiration. Another one is the Great British Bake Off. I simply love it! And every time I get super inspired to bake bread and make a huuuuge centrepiece out of it.
I mean I know that I could never hack it myself on any of those shows. I would be the first person crying over boiling an egg or chopping a carrot. I am more of a no-pressure kinda baker…
Anyhow – hungry gals is back with a vengeance – Die Hard style! – and here’s the first recipe. Of course it involves chocolate. No doubt about that! Off we go! Yipikaye Motherbaker! (super lame, but I had to get it out!)

Snickers Chocolate Mousse

Snickers Chocolate Mousse

Serves: 6
Preparation time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:
150 gr Good Quality Milk Chocolate (Green & Black’s Organic Milk Chocolate with 34% Cocoa)
2 Egg Whites
2 tbsp Caster Sugar
2 dl Whipping Cream
1 Vanilla Pod
3 Snickers Bars (Optional: 1 extra Snickers bar for garnish)

Instructions:
Halve the vanilla pod and scrape the beans out. Set aside. Thinly slice and chop the Snickers bars. Optionally chop one extra Snickers bar for garnish. Set aside.
In a large bowl whisk egg whites with caster sugar until firms peaks form. In another large bowl whip the whipping cream with the vanilla beans until soft peaks form. Take care not to over whip.
Break the milk chocolate into small pieces and transfer them into a heat-proof bowl. Place the bowl over boiling water taking care that the bottom of the bowl does not touch the boiling water. Whilst continuously mixing melt the milk chocolate. Set aside. Place the chopped Snickers pieces into a separate heat-proof bowl and set it on top of simmering water taking care that the bottom of the bowl does not touch the hot water. Let the Snickers pieces soften a little bit, but remove the bowl from the hot water before the chocolate melts completely. Set aside.
Gently taking care that you don’t knock any air out fold the melted milk chocolate into the whipped egg whites. Gently fold in the softened chopped Snickers. Lastly add the whipped cream into the mousse and taking care not to knock any air out of the mousse fold until completely mixed.
Just before serving evenly divide the Snickers Chocolate Mousse between 6 dessert bowls. Garnish with chopped Snickers.
